BUTTER BEEF MADRAS BHUNA

Ingredients

  • 450g Stewing Beef (Cubed)
  • 25g Butter
  • 1 Large Onion (Finely Chopped)
  • 55g Chopped Tomatoes (Tinned Tomatoes Can Be Used)
  • 1 teaspoon Tomato Puree
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Tumeric Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Chilli Powder
  • 2 tablespoons Madras Curry Powder (Normal Curry powder will work fine)
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder (1 teaspoon of crushed garlic can be used)
  • 450ml Water
  • Corriander
  • 1 Beef Stock Cubes

Directions

Step 1
Melt the butter in a large pan and add the onion. Cook until golden brown, stirring continuously.

Add the tomatoes, puree, salt, turmeric powder, chilli powder, madras curry powder, garlic powder and beef and mix well. Cook for 5 minutes stirring frequently.

Add the water, and the stock cubes, reduce the heat and simmer for about one hour stirring every 8 to 10 minutes until the beef is tender.

Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with the coriander.

Ingredients

  • 1.5lb ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 0.5lb pound ground lamb
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic or garlic powder

Directions

Step 1
Put all of the ingredients into a large mixing bowl and knead well to bind the meats and spices together.
Step 2
Refrigerate for about 2 hours and then take out and knead well again.Shape into finger-length shapes (just like small sausages) and cook on a grill or in a broiler over a moderate temperature so that they stay juicy. Turn only once and do not pierce.
Step 3
Serve in warmed or grilled Greek-style pita bread on a bed of onions. Also good with kajmak or sour cream, fresh peppers, ajvar and tomatoes.
